Real Club Deportivo Mallorca, commonly known as RCD Mallorca, is a historic Spanish football club based in Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands. Founded on March 5, 1916, it is the oldest professional football club in the region and a symbol of pride for the island’s passionate football fans. Mallorca plays its home matches at the Visit Mallorca Estadi, a modern stadium with a capacity of over 23,000. The venue offers a scenic backdrop, reflecting the island’s beauty, and is known for its lively atmosphere created by the loyal supporters, who stand behind their team through every challenge. The club’s most successful era came in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Under the guidance of Argentine coach Héctor Cúper, Mallorca reached the Copa del Rey final in 1998 and achieved a historic third-place finish in La Liga during the 1998-99 season, earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers. In 2003, Mallorca secured its first major trophy, winning the Copa del Rey by defeating Recreativo de Huelva.
RCD Mallorca has also made its presence felt in European competitions. The club reached the final of the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999, showcasing its ability to compete on the international stage. Despite experiencing relegation and financial difficulties in the past decade, Mallorca has shown remarkable resilience. The club achieved back-to-back promotions in 2018 and 2019 to return to La Liga, symbolizing its fighting spirit and determination. Mallorca is known for its commitment to nurturing talent, both from its academy and through smart signings. The club has developed players who have gone on to make significant impacts in Spanish and international football. As the only La Liga team representing the Balearic Islands, RCD Mallorca holds a special place in Spanish football, offering a unique blend of island culture and competitive spirit. The club continues to strive for success, driven by its proud history and the unwavering suport of its fans.
