Pre-Writing Activities for Preschoolers
Patterning: first steps in handwriting, follow the lines with your pencil. Before children are able to start writing letters and words their hands and muscles need to practice producing patterns of all kinds. Give children a chance to practice their pencil control and handwriting skills by asking them to carefully draw over the top of these different patterns. Patterning is fun and creative – give your child crayons, pencils and pens and let them enjoy making marks on paper! By the time they start school most children will be able to copy patterns very accurately, from horizontal and vertical lines to circles and diagonal lines.
