The New York Mets are a professional baseball team based in Queens, New York City. Founded in 1962, they are a member of the National League (NL) East division in Major League Baseball (MLB). The Mets were established to fill the void left by the departure of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants, bringing National League baseball back to New York. The team’s colors, blue and orange, pay homage to the Dodgers and Giants respectively.
The Mets have experienced both highs and lows throughout their history. They won their first World Series title in 1969, just seven years after their inception, in what became known as the “Miracle Mets” season. They captured their second championship in 1986, a season highlighted by memorable performances and an iconic comeback victory in Game 6 of the World Series against the Boston Red Sox.
Over the years, the Mets have had a passionate fan base, known for their loyalty even during challenging seasons. The team plays its home games at Citi Field, which opened in 2009, replacing the iconic Shea Stadium. The Mets have seen many notable players don their uniform, including Hall of Famers like Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza, and stars like David Wright and Jacob deGrom.
Though they have faced periods of struggle, the Mets remain a beloved institution in New York, consistently striving to return to championship contention and write new chapters in their storied history.
