D.C. United is one of the most storied and successful clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS). Founded in 1995 as one of the league’s original teams, the club is based in Washington, D.C., and plays its home games at Audi Field, a state-of-the-art stadium located in the Buzzard Point neighborhood. The team’s colors—black and red—along with its eagle crest, symbolize strength and unity, reflecting the capital’s identity.
D.C. United has a rich history of success, particularly during the early years of MLS. The club won the inaugural MLS Cup in 1996 and followed it up with additional championships in 1997, 1999, and 2004, making them one of the league’s most decorated teams. They have also captured several U.S. Open Cup titles and international honors, including the 1998 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup.
Known for their passionate fanbase, led by supporter groups like the Screaming Eagles, Barra Brava, and La Norte, matchdays are filled with energy and chants that create an electric atmosphere. The team has seen legendary players such as Jaime Moreno, Marco Etcheverry, and Ben Olsen don its colors, with Olsen also serving as a long-time head coach.
Though recent years have seen rebuilding phases and mixed performances, D.C. United remains a significant presence in MLS. The club continues to focus on youth development, community engagement, and reclaiming its position as a perennial contender in the league.
