The team was originally established as the Washington Senators in 1961 before relocating to Texas in 1972 and adopting the Rangers name, in homage to the famous law enforcement agency, the Texas Rangers.

For much of their early history, the Rangers struggled to find consistent success, often finishing at or near the bottom of the standings. In 2023, the team broke through and captured their first World Series title, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games.

The Mariners’ home games are held at T-Mobile Park, a stadium known for its retractable roof and stunning views of downtown Seattle and the Puget Sound.

While the Mariners have often struggled to find consistent success, they have had some memorable seasons and legendary players. One of the franchise’s greatest highlights came in 1995, when they made their first playoff appearance and won a dramatic AL Division Series against the New York Yankees, a moment that helped energize the team’s fan base. This run was led by stars like Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, and Edgar Martinez, who became iconic figures in Seattle sports history.

Ken Griffey Jr., often referred to as “The Kid,” remains the most famous player in Mariners history. A Hall of Famer and one of the most electrifying talents in baseball, Griffey’s defensive prowess in center field and his powerful swing captivated fans throughout the 1990s. The Mariners also enjoyed success in the early 2000s, including a record-setting 116-win season in 2001, a feat that remains one of the best regular-season performances in MLB history. That team was led by Ichiro Suzuki, a Japanese superstar who won Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season.

Despite these high points, the Mariners have endured the longest playoff drought in North American professional sports, going from 2001 to 2022 without a postseason appearance. In 2022, however, they broke the drought, energizing their fan base once again and showcasing promising young talent, including outfielder Julio Rodríguez.

Though they have never won a World Series, the Mariners are an integral part of Seattle’s sports culture, known for their passionate fans and the unique charm of playing in one of baseball’s most scenic ballparks.

The Oakland Athletics, often referred to as the A’s, are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team based in Oakland, California. They are part of the American League (AL) West division. The team has a long and storied history, dating back to its founding in 1901 in Philadelphia. Originally called the Philadelphia Athletics, the team relocated to Kansas City in 1955 before settling in Oakland in 1968.

The A’s are known for their success during the 1970s, when they won three consecutive World Series championships from 1972 to 1974, led by stars like Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter. Another notable era came in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the team, featuring players like Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, and Rickey Henderson, won the 1989 World Series.

In more recent years, the A’s have been associated with the “Moneyball” approach, popularized by general manager Billy Beane. This strategy focused on using advanced statistics and data analytics to build competitive teams on a limited budget, a method made famous by Michael Lewis’ book and the subsequent 2011 film “Moneyball.”

Despite financial constraints and an aging stadium (the Oakland Coliseum), the A’s have consistently been able to field competitive teams and make playoff appearances. However, the team’s future in Oakland has been uncertain, with ongoing discussions about relocating due to challenges with securing a new stadium in the city. Nonetheless, the A’s remain an iconic franchise with a passionate fan base and a rich history in Major League Baseball.
